Active Farmer-to-Farmer Programs

CNFA's Farmer-to-Farmer program, part of USAID's global John Ogonowski Farmer-to-Farmer Program, provides opportunities for U.S. farmers, agribusiness professionals and other agriculturists to help contribute to democracy-building and the development of a market economy by sharing their expertise with aspiring entrepreneurs across the globe.

American volunteers travel to countries in 3 regions (Europe, the Caucasus and Central Asia, Southern Africa and East Africa) to share their knowledge. Our volunteers are experts in their fields. They represent all ages and industries. They are farmers, bankers, professors, civil servants, and active and retired businesspeople. Like us, they are committed to helping less fortunate people respond to the demands of markets, improve production, and increase incomes.

Our volunteers provide host organizations—usually farms, processors or other agricultural enterprises—with practical short-term technical assistance. CNFA has identified certain crops and markets that are vital to the economies of our target countries. We will be working mostly in oilseed crops, horticulture, grains, legumes, dairy, livestock and nuts. We have identified a number of enterprises working in those fields, and volunteers will work with these hosts to improve production, processing and marketing.

Our two-to-four-week-long projects range from training associated service providers and agribusinesses in financial management, marketing, cooperative development, agricultural production, post-harvest and processing technologies, international quality
standards and rural finance.
