Established by Samuel Gathumbi in 2007, Mitunguu Millers Ltd is a small cold-pressed sunflower oil processor in Kenya. Having formed the company to address a market opportunity for the oil, Gathumbi faced a new challenge in that the oil extraction and quality was below the market standard for cold pressed oils and Gathumbi was not reaching
his target consumers. During the twenty days he spent with Mitunguu in May 2009, Robert Bond assisted the host with the development of a business plan and marketing strategy. Together they addressed such issues as creating a
recognizable brand and building awareness among target consumers by focusing on the health benefits of oil as opposed to the fats traditionally used in cooking. Gathumbi developed prototypes of new product labels and a sample-sized bottle based on this assignment, and is hoping to add a full time sales person.
Demo Plot Changes Kosongochis' Lives
Four years ago, Joseph and Rosemary were introduced to CNFA’s demand creation activities by certified agrodealer Godfrey Wambwa, who was looking for a farm near the main road to set up a maize demonstration plot.
