Business, Market, & Finance Development Specialist: USAID Egypt Value Added Solutions (EVAS)

Project Overview:

The purpose of the USAID Feed the Future Egypt Value Added Solutions (EVAS) project is to employ a market-driven systems-strengthening approach to improve the competitiveness of horticulture producers and related down-stream businesses and food processors by building their capacities to respond to demand from domestic and international buyers and fully meet their market requirements.  Meeting the demands of the market will necessitate adoption of international food quality and safety standards for horticulture crops destined for both international and domestic markets, including food processors, supermarkets, and restaurant chains.


This contract will build off of the work that USAID, other donor projects, and the Government of Egypt have undertaken and must address the following inter-related goals: 1) Strengthen sustainable domestic and international market linkages; 2) Improve post-harvest handling and storage; 3) Increase productivity of small farmers and food processors; and 4) Improve nutritional status of women and children.


Position Description:

The Business, Market and Finance Development Specialist (BMFDS) will lead the market and business development components of the project.  In this capacity, s/he is responsible for the overall design, implementation, oversight, and reporting of the activity’s objectives around business and financial services, as well farmers’ access to markets.  S/he will work with local partners and conducts regular site visits to ensure effective implementation while coordinating closely with other technical team leaders to increase impact of program interventions.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A degree in agricultural development, business, marketing, or other relevant equivalent field is required (Master’s preferred).
  • Seven years of progressively responsible experience in the provision of financial services or provision of business development services is required.
  • Demonstrated experience in public-private engagement is desirable.
  • Demonstrated experience in identifying market opportunities in local and export markets.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English are required; oral and written fluency in Arabic is desirable.
