Factory Design

Farmer-to-Farmer is a USAID-funded initiative, which sends American agricultural/agribusiness experts to developing countries to offer technical assistance to our host organizations. These trips are volunteer-based, but all trip-related expenses are covered by CNFA, and typically last between two and three weeks.

Assignment

In 2015, Marie Chikuni and associates created Marie Kambuzi’s Sauce, a chili sauce company in Malawi that uses a local variety of chili pepper called Kambuzi.  Marie Kambuzi’s Sauce is sold both nationally in large chain grocery shops and some internationally.  Currently, the company produces the chili sauce is Ms. Chikuni’s home kitchen, but is looking to move to a large scale processing facility.  Ms. Chikuni has already purchased a piece of land for the construction of the factor and is seeking a Farmer-to-Farmer volunteer to design the factory before she invests in building the factory.

Desired Impacts

  • Increased total production capacity to meet market demand

Desired Qualifications

  • Extensive experience in food processing for mass markets in particular sauces
  • Experience in managing or consulting processing companies
  • Prior experience working with small enterprises or agribusinesses in Africa strongly preferred
  • Must be citizen or permanent resident of the U.S.
