Christian Schunk

Vice President, Operational Integrity

Christian Schunk is a compliance expert with over fifteen years of experience in the international development sector. As the vice president of operational integrity, Schunk serves as the head of the Awards and Compliance Unit and is responsible for managing CNFA’s internal review program to ensure adherence with internal standards and donor rules and regulations. In addition to this function, he reviews the effectiveness and efficiency of CNFA’s operational practices, processes and procedures, including ways to streamline standard operating procedures and identify operational gaps to optimize project implementation. Schunk also manages CNFA’s ethics reporting and database.

Prior to joining CNFA, Schunk worked at FHI 360, Chemonics, Catholic Relief Services and Habitat for Humanity International in a variety of compliance and project management roles, including long term overseas assignments in Chad, Madagascar and Costa Rica. He has extensive experience managing multi-donor portfolios, including USAID, USDA, the Gates Foundation, the Drosos Foundation and the World Bank Group.

Schunk holds a Master of Arts in International Affairs from the American University School of International Service. Born in Uruguay and raised in Washington, D.C., he is a native Spanish speaker and is proficient in French. He continues to live in the D.C. area with his family and enjoys hiking, playing soccer and traveling.
